Kadokawa Unveils New Trailer and Kaiju Reveal for Gamera -Rebirth- Anime at Comic-Con International!

Comic-Con International attendees were in for a thrilling treat this Sunday as Kadokawa, the renowned Japanese entertainment company, unveiled an exhilarating new trailer and a major kaiju reveal for the upcoming anime series, Gamera -Rebirth-. The event was brimming with excitement as fans gathered to witness the latest updates on this highly anticipated new Gamera anime series.

Gamera -Rebirth- Summary:

In the summer of 1989, three sixth graders – Boko, Joe, and Junichi – face an unforgettable adventure during their last summer vacation as elementary school students. Their routine days take an extraordinary turn when Tokyo is attacked by the monstrous Gyaos, leaving the city in ruins. Petrified by the chaos around them, the boys find themselves targeted by the relentless Gyaos, but their fear turns to awe as a colossal turtle-shaped kaiju named Gamera emerges to defend them. Despite its injuries, Gamera courageously battles Gyaos with all its might, setting the stage for an epic “Summer of Kaiju” that will change their lives forever.

Gamera -Rebirth- trailer took fans on a breathtaking journey, showcasing Gamera, the iconic giant turtle and protector of Earth, engaging in intense battles against a myriad of monstrous foes. But the highlight of the trailer was undoubtedly the reveal of Gamera’s fifth and final kaiju opponent – Viras! As the anticipation builds, viewers can’t wait to see how this ultimate showdown will play out.

Adding to the excitement, the trailer also unveiled the anime’s theme song titled “Natsuake” (Summer Dawn), which is performed by the Japanese punk rock band WANIMA(ワニマ). Not only that, but WANIMA will also lend their musical talents to the anime’s ending theme song, “FLY & DIVE,” promising a memorable and melodious experience for fans.

Gamera -Rebirth- is set to hit Netflix on September 7, 2023 providing global audiences with a front-row seat to witness the thrilling kaiju battles. The series will consist of six action-packed episodes, each focusing on Gamera’s valiant efforts to combat five menacing kaiju. It’s a battle of epic proportions, and viewers can’t wait to see how their favorite giant turtle handles these monumental challenges.

Beyond the thrilling plot and sensational music, Gamera -Rebirth- boasts an all-star voice cast that includes Hisako Kanemoto as Boko, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Joe, Aki Toyosaki as Junichi, Subaru Kimura as Brody, Mamoru Miyano as Tazaki, and Saori Hayami as Emiko. Their stellar performances are sure to bring these dynamic characters to life and deepen the connection between the audience and the anime.

The creative team behind Gamera -Rebirth- is nothing short of extraordinary. Helmed by Hiroyuki Seshita, known for his impressive work on Polygon Pictures’ Godzilla anime trilogy and Lupin III vs. Cat’s Eye, the anime is in excellent hands. Keisuke Ide serves as the assistant director, and the series composition is handled by Seshita himself, Kenta Ihara (Uncle From Another World, Saga of Tanya the Evil), and Hiroshi Seko (Mob Psycho 100), with Tetsuya Yamada (Knights of Sidonia) contributing to the scriptwriting.

The character designs are crafted by the talented Atsushi Tamura, whose previous work includes Weathering With You and Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island. Manga creator Kan Takahama, known for Nyx no Lantern and the Heisei Gamera films, brings his artistic prowess to design the awe-inspiring monsters, ensuring they leave a lasting impression on fans.

To further expand the Gamera -Rebirth- universe, a manga adaptation will debut on Kadokawa’s Young Ace Up website, and director Hiroyuki Seshita will also contribute to a novel adaptation. The comprehensive approach promises to immerse fans even further into the captivating world of Gamera.
